GrantTrail

Privacy

GrantTrail has no accounts, and we don’t sell anything about you. Updated October 16, 2026.

Search

The search box works in your browser. To answer it, the browser downloads part of the site’s index, a file named after the first letters of one word you typed (the whole word when it’s a common one, like “canada”), so our host’s logs see those letters, not your search. What you type never goes in a page address, and Google Analytics gets none of it: only that a result was picked, its kind (program, place, organization) and its place in the list.

Lists of programs

The filters on the lists of programs you can apply for (who is applying, kind of support, industry) work in your browser. What you pick isn’t sent to us or to Google and isn’t kept after you leave the page. Those lists carry no ads and load nothing from Google’s ad servers, and pages you open after them see only granttrail.ca as the page you came from.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read and which links people follow. It sets cookies and receives your IP address, your browser, and the address and title of each page you view and the page you came from, which Google processes under its own privacy policy. You can block it with Google’s opt-out browser add-on or your browser’s privacy settings. The site works without it.

Advertising

The site shows no ads today. When it does, they will be ads from Google AdSense, labelled “Advertisement”, one at the end of a page about a program, department, place, industry or organization, after the figures, and none on the lists of programs you can apply for, the alerts signup or this page.

Google picks the ads, not us. Advertisers have no say in any figure or in which programs are listed, and an ad for a grant writer, a consultant or a lender is Google’s choice, not our recommendation. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies let it and its partners serve ads based on those visits. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and out of other vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info. How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Hosting and email

The site is hosted on Vercel, whose servers log requests (including IP addresses and page addresses) for security and operation. If you write to hello@granttrail.ca, we keep your message to answer it and add you to no list.

The records

The figures are the Government of Canada’s own disclosures of grants and contributions. Grants to individuals count in every total, but individuals are never named on this site: no page, no name, no postal code (about the data).
